As an ant keeper, I've often wondered if humans aren't in fact, rather more like ants than we would admit. We think we make decisions but we have a lot of built-in default behaviors, like following strongmen and the inability to resist pumpkin spice lattes.

Ants don't follow the queen; they groom her and keep her happy and she gives them what they need (eggs, more ants, jobs). We have leaders who we try to keep happy but, when they are a reckless and inept (Trump) administration, they don't give us what we need (jobs). Ants have death spirals but we have too many big fat liars.
