Blaming people for being dumb enough to follow their heroes doesn't cut it. People who have a loud voice and spew nonsense are responsible. Clapton could have apologized many times over the last 5 decades for his remarks, but he hasn't. When someone makes a racist or sexist remark, they can apologize. Sorry, I don't buy the "complicated and multidimensional" justification because it seems to often apply to privileged white men. Sinead O'Connor was cancelled for being complicated and multidimensional; Clapton has barely been scolded. As for Jimi Hendrix--good grief, his remarks come across as not only racist but jealous and insecure.
