Evidence indicates modern gender roles partlt developed and diverged due largely to trade and commerce patterns in which men traveled (ie colonization, slave trade) and women stayed home--usually running & managing the farm & household. Money and physical freedom to travel play big roles in how women's competencies have come into question as being the domestic half lost favor. It's a shame because 'civilization' had so much potential but inequality leaves only a few to enjoy the fruits of our massive collective productivity.
