Good for you for never giving up. I used to moderate a Disability discussion board, and heard many horror stories of waiting to get that lump sum check. The system is so screwed up due to underfunding. There seems to be no powerful lobby to help disabled people get more funding. The VA seems to do somewhat better, but even they struggle to get the disability process adequately funded.
