Good points. Thanks for making this clear. I've seen and read a lot about the false lead of video evidence. Perhaps could have written more accurately, "Police spent a lot of time looking at videotapes of border crossers, but there was no convincing evidence of the McStays crossing." As for the police, it does seem now--in retrospect--that foul play and not Mexico is the more likely answer. They could've definitely looked closer at a known felon in Joseph's life.
