Hard work is a virtue, but the economy cannot stand on continued low-paying jobs. Minimum wage needs to go up, for starters. Trying to live on a full-time income of $12 or $15 and hour is tough, even with two incomes. The base costs of housing, food, transportation, and whatever loans need to be paid back quickly use up all earnings. But in answer to your question, I suspect a lot of Americans--espeically singles--can cut back on some expenses, move to cheaper housing, get a roommate, cancel cable & the gym, and tighten up their belts...at least for a few months.
