I agree that remaining curious, open, and willing to learn matters, but our society tends to err a bit on the side of youth and trendiness. Sometimes trends are just that--fleeting. On any team, and especially at work, when one member lags it's annoying. And when it comes to tech, most older people are at a disadvantage. Boomers don't speak the language of social media. Can they learn it? Yes. Will they be as proficient as Millenials or Gen Z? In most cases, no.
