I agree with the idea of rationing but feel hopeless about our government implementing it. When we tried cutting down in the 1970s under Carter it didn’t go over well, and arguably our society is more messed up today and more divisive than it was then. I could see some segments of society making us ration, like Portland and Austin and maybe the state of Vermont, but in other places people would rather die than carpool (Texas and Florida come to mind). Maybe I am too pessimistic…I’ve seen water rationing work before.
