I believe you are, in the main, correct. Many employers save money by outsourcing. The US outsourced to cheap labor overseas, and now they are outsourcing full-time jobs with benefits. This has many, many downsides including workers rights such as workers comp, healthcare coverage, vacation, and sick leave. Gig workers also have to cover nearly all costs such as their own computer, internet connection, and so forth. It is not a win for the American worker by any means, but since many corporations operate with short term profit in mind, the trend continues. America desperately needs to restructure its health coverage to a single-payer system. Until you don't have employer covered benefits, you don't realize how expensive it is to cover it yourself, and the GOP continues to try erasing Obamacare.
