I bought up the topic of being a writer with my dad and he told me TS Eliot was a bank Vice President and Wallace Stevens sold insurance. This definitely made me feel like it wasn't going to be easy. But I think you are on to something because what drove them to come home after a long day of semi-mental work and do more mental work is the same thing that drives you. Maybe you'll get the Nobel or Pulitzer but that isn't why they did it.
