I didn't try to "have it all" because the very idea felt oppressive. I married late. I wasn't into kids, babysitting, dolls, or any aspect of children, although I was a high school teacher for a while. I found out much later I was neurodivergent, which has explained my lifelong battle with motivation, energy, and accomplishment. I can't do it all--I spend my mental reserves working, being married, and managing a house and that's plenty. Often, it's too much. It's hard for me to comprehend how a woman who manages a career, marriage, home, and children believes that's the standard. It's not--even normal, healthy women struggle with that role. We females have been sold a strange bill of goods: yes, you can have economic opportunity but you'll have to do two jobs to get it. Your choice! You can be liberated, but you'll need to work twice as hard.
