I feel for those of us caught "in the middle" owing to bad luck, it seems doubly frustrating by trying to explain to the lucky (still young, by definition elite) minority the source of our grievances. Your story encapsulates what can wrong even when you make good choices. I also feel it's 50-somethings who seem to fall through the cracks in our shifting economic sands.
