I flatter people and it's almost always meant sincerely, but the truth is it's human nature to kiss up -- to some extent -- to people who have power over us. Semi-sincere or insincere flattery isn't malevolent or personal most of the time. Consider it a compliment someone thinks you are important enough to flatter!
