I guess we have more a-holes than I realized, because the "I suffered and so should you" ethos is alive and well in America. New doctors are ruthlessly put through sleep-deprivation as they intern, because their bosses did. New pledges at fraternities are hazed, because their "brothers" were. It's incredible how jealousy and envy and covetousness have infiltrated the American soul.
