I had a similar experience when my mother's health began to go downhill. She was living in an assisted living facility she had to leave because they didn't have a level down where she could go. She ended up in a dementia home that wasn't great. They fed her--way too much. The doctors couldn't seem to figure out, for a long time, that she had lithium toxicity. It was hard to even get the dementia diagnosis and harder to find an expert in gerontology. She ended up in a small group home with good care, thankfully, at the end. All this--with three daughters to help care for her and plenty of money. The bottom line was we couldn't find a good doctor for her and she had to accept a patchwork of care.
