I hear you. I got a gig for a true crime tabloid because of Medium, and it paid about $30 an hour. Nice, right? Except they didn't pay on time. Finally, after not getting paid for 6 months I, and a few other of their freelance staff, quit. I did get a paid a lump sum after I contacted the CEO on LinkedIn (for which I had to pay for a "premium" LI account). Truthfully, I would've put up with it longer but I got burnt out writing about serial killers. On Medium, my complaint is having loads of followers (I'm at 7.5K) only incrementally pushes us my wage. It's not livable and like you, I write nearly every day.
