I hitched a thousand miles from Haines AK to Kenai, then back again to Prince George BC. I was always with someone else, which I think cut down my chances of death by serial killer. Hippie bus? the Green Tortoise. Helpful social worker? Yes--did not try to sleep with either of us. Sitting in the back of pickup trucks that could've taken us into the forest where we'd never be seen again? Oh, yeah. And this was in the 80s so I should have known better....
