I live in a rural area and it's flyover country central, full of backwoodsy types who aren't stupid, but honestly I think they get tired of the obvious BS in DC. You are correct - people HATE being talked down to--and Trump tends to talk on a populist level. I think in some ways Obama did, too. And Bill Clinton. I think what drives a lot of us anti-Trumpers nuts is how obvious Trump's con game is. Is Biden conning us? Not really. He's doing DC business as usual, though, and generations of rural people have plenty of reasons to distrust the federal gov't. I'm not from Arkansas but after living here 5 years I've developed an attitude of like--hey wait a minute, are you going to assume that because I don't live in NYC, Austin, or some other big city, I'm dumb?
