I lived in Tucson for 22 years, and I left because it had grown so much I didn't recognize it. My husband was born there in 1950 and when he was a kid the town was 50,000. I also left because of the worsening heat and worries about sustained drought. The city is now well over a million. I simply got tired of sitting in traffic. I lived at Oracle and River in a cute condo community with lovely landscaping and nearby washes, and everywhere I lived in Tucson I saw wildlife: bunnies, coyotes, and javelina, but turning left out of my complex was impossible! A homeless encampment in the wash next to us was a drag. I fear the growth Tucson (put off by never building interstates and refusing to become Phoenix) may be closing in. People are discovering it. It's a beautiful area. I'm surprised they didn't discover it a long time ago but they moved to San Diego and NorCal instead, I guess.
