I moved to Arkansas a few years ago and several of my friends hated me for it. They didn't ask questions, and when I tried to explain I wanted out of the inferno that is Arizona, this seemed to baffle them. When I noted the better cost of living, this too made them get blank stares. After a while, my husband stopped saying Arkansas and switched to a resort community called Hot Springs Village. This helped, but good grief - the prejudice against places! Arkansas isn't full of hillbillies, and so what if it? Being able to hunt, fish, and identify edible plants are skills, not dangerous diseases! The level of judgmentalism was incredible and it made me re-assess my "friends." It's lovely here, but no place is perfect. I'd rather not have a governor who is a fool, but you can't have everything.
