I really appreciate this article! I was into Star Trek, too, TOS, watching it on a tiny TV I somehow had in my bedroom when I was 11. I was shamed by my parents for watching too much TV and the house rule became one hour of TV per day, only after dark. Even though I loved playing outside, I think I often felt more lonely trying to make friends and failing than had I been able to spend time alone with my hobbies. I recently watched a documentary about ComicCon (when I was looking for the documentary Trekkies) and realized that a big % of folks who go to these conventions are autistic. It's very obvious in the interviews. Comic book collectors, artists, writers, and all the fans.
