I used to be a high school teacher. I lasted 4 years (non-consecutive). I think some of the answer to the puzzle of teacher hatred lies in misogyny, and some lies in the experience of adults who hated school. I didn't like school much, but not because of the academics. I loved my teachers, but the general atmosphere from 8th grade on wasn't much fun. But I didn't struggle with reading or writing or math. The one subject I was terrible at was music and I can recall wanting to avoid it all costs. I imagine what it must be like to go through school never being "good enough" at the basics, and being unable to escape. Some kids will blame themselves, but some will blame the teachers.

I also wonder if adults hate teachers because they don't want anyone telling their precious angels what to do, resent having to "agree" on community standards, and generally don't like other people?
