I used to write and edit academic papers, and these 3 sentences sum up how I got to be good at it. I was in an academic environment for years, in specialized research, and honed my writing skills while learning both the topic and process of academic writing. Judging by what professors I know are reporting about students using AI to write their papers, it seems our society is in serious trouble regarding learning the skill of how to think (ie how to write). We value convenience and profits over hard work. I can still work online as a writer and editor. I envision my pay continuing to decline as all writing work dries up, including technical and academic writing.
