I wish this were true. I can't tell you how many times someone's told me I can have "just one piece" of cake or pie. But I recognize alcohol is worse because admitting you are on a diet is normal these days whereas declining alcohol does make some people throw you into the "OMG he's an alcoholic" bin, often with harsh judgment. My husband is 40+ years sober and still goes to meetings. He works really hard, and nobody but me sees it (besides of course the people in his AA group). As a food addict, I relate to the invisible hard work and I'm grateful the two of us can see each other.
