I wonder how much this issue is affecting everyone. I feel like part of my problem is how badly 'customer service' has gone downhill in my lifetime. Phone trees are relatively modern, and robo-phone-trees even more so. It's hard dealing with a person who isn't a person for me because I'm literal and expect help, but the phrase 'customer service' gaslights our whole culture. I'm trying to learn the rules of the game, like never using my debit card online, ordering from Amazon if possible, and never, ever expecting actual service. The world of commerce has become rife with tricksters, scammers, and hucksters. It's a shame, and not just a downside of living so much of our lives online. The online world is dangerous and lawless and yes, it's more dangerous for the vulnerable, which includes. neurodivergent, very young, and old people.
