I'm 58 and just recently "officially" retired but I still work part-time because....it's America and unless you are a gazillionaire you have no financial security. I'm embarrassingly grateful to have a 3-month part-time seasonal job from March to May that pays about $30 an hour. I get maybe 15 hours a week. I have two master's degrees but at my age, I might as well be entering the job market again. The gig economy is swallowing up a hundred years of worker's rights. Companies all want to be Amazon. I thank the gods every day my husband has a good job: benefits, a great boss, decent enough money. He's been at it for 30 years and is truly one of the very lucky workers in this economy, and he knows it. It's ugly out there.
