I'm an atheist and I go to a Unitarian Church, where we get zero representation. Atheism is a negative in the same way women are viewed as "not men" and for some "not human." It's hard to talk about a negative. Nobody wants to deal with the larger questions of God's existence, even though huge numbers of young people don't go to church anymore. So we say we are "spiritual, not religious" but the problem I have is that an anthropomorphic God is absurd to me. I don't believe in life after death, and I think all religions push it (except Buddhism, which is more of a philosophy) because it sells. Nobody wants to die; everybody thinks they are good and will go to heaven. An interventionist God is even more ridiculous, and so forth. So my beef with religion is it makes zero sense on so many levels - then you just hear about faith. Even in my church, people wear their spirituality as a badge of honor and virtue. This is why churches produce so much hypocrisy and are so annoying. No, you aren't a better person than me because believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost and have a recipe for goodness. You are playing a game in which you pretend you have answers you don't have.
