I'm like you, Michelle. A chubby kid...even though the rest of my family was thin. I've come to understand my thyroid disease (low) was foreshadowed with my stubborn childhood (bodily) refusal to lose weight. I've spent a lifetime studying the problem. Recently I went on Bright Lines where you could have yogurt, fruit, and oatmeal (plain) for breakfast. The lunches and dinners were mostly veg and meat. I immediately noticed how excited I was about breakfast, every day. I was becoming addicted, that's right, to plain oatmeal! I just do better without any grains. So I'm back to meat, veg, and yams for my carb. (I can't do potatoes--too addicting). I'm relieved I understand this but had I been on this diet since age 5, life would've been a lot more stable! But who could've known? This article highlights how "normal" people can modify calories and still eat treats moderately. I cannot. I think this disconnect in how people lose weight fuels confusion and controversy over the "right foods" because there are real individual differences.
