I'm really glad you used the term hobbies and not the patronizing 'special interests' term. I was an intrinsically motivated learner in high school and didn't realize until my 30s in grad school I should be focused entirely on grades. Progress was slow, and by the time I earned those As I realized they meant very little to me.
