Interesting numbers, but I find the range of 42K to 127K for a 'middle class' couple a bit broad. It depends what part of the country you are in, sure--but I live in one of the cheapest places imaginable (rural AR) where housing is quite affordable, and 42K wouldn't be much for two of us. I guess I should count my lucky stars it's more, at least until we both stop working....
