I've struggled with my weight since early childhood. One thing I've learned is that sustained weight loss is very, very difficult. Statistics support this--only about 5% of people lose weight and keep it off. I'm one of them, but I'm ALWAYS monitoring my food intake. I currently eat a very low-carb (high-fat) diet because it's worked best for me. Fixing obesity is a full-time job and there's a lot of bad advice out there, but I do think most people agree high-sugar foods are a bad idea if you are trying to lose weight. I do believe weight loss is possible, but it's taken decades for me to figure out how to do it without being miserable. I could never be a so-called intuitive eater--as soon as I eat a wide variety of foods (even healthy ones like oatmeal with no sugar), I gain weight.
