Much of this article reveals truths we need to discuss more honestly as a culture, but the comment about "patriarchal family" is way off. Patriarchal families, in the extreme, lead to abuse of power, girls and women who are victims of sexual assault and sometimes incest, and a false front about how families function and operate. Both parents should be authorities; both provide adult role models to their kids. If they each have a sphere, one in the home and the other in the world--that works, too. As a culture, we often fail at embracing that both genders have power in the world and in the family. The model of a patriarchal family extends notions of hierarchy into families, where hierarchy isn't only unnecessary but a barrier to working cooperatively. The patriarchal family is an idea based on a projection of a patriarchal society. Whether or not you are a feminist, families can't operate well with one decision-making adult because guess what--their happen to be two adults. They need to share & distribute major responsibilities like driving the car, paying the bills, getting the groceries, fixing the house, and disciplining the kids.
