My old hometown (Tucson) was run by hippies, and they are still in power! The County Supervisor is into his 70s and he's been in office for 30 years. It's a fiefdom, not a democracy. Finally, they are letting a few non-white, non-men into the game...but the power structure is tight-knit. They've dropped the ball, big time, on building roads and a few other issues. And they aren't interesting in passing the torch. At least the County Supervisor loves bicycling, so Tucson has a killer bike path.
