Scooter Lies
Stop Believing the Hype. Cars Are Much, Much Worse.
Every time I see a new photo — or perhaps it’s the same, recycled image — of a concrete sidewalk piled high with scooters, looking like a tragic game of Jenga or pick-up sticks, I shake my head. The caption invariably reveals the grave social crisis of uncivil scooter riders.
The public health crisis involving too many scooters, the dangers of scooters, the lawlessness associated with these two-wheeled terrors — is a giant lie.
Have you seen a photo, for the sake of comparison, of an endless line of traffic? What about photos of burning semi-trucks on the side of some highway, with a pillar of flame and black smoke shooting skyward?
The millions of cars on this planet pollute, lock people in boxes and torture them with relentless commutes when, after a few decades, their personalities twist to the point of a mental health diagnosis called road rage. When you combine alcohol with cars, it’s catastrophic. It doesn’t just kill or maim the driver but takes out innocents. Sure, no one wants a swerving scooter rider but on what planet are we spending actual energy pretending SCOOTERS ARE THE PROBLEM?
Do we compare those images of cars and trucks with the “pile of scooters on a sidewalk” photo?
We should.
