Suicides are way up in the over 50 age group, although white men seem to be most impacted. However, I think there is a biological answer, in part, to the depression. I began having trouble sleeping in my late 40s. After years of refusing to put up with this, I found a solution involving diet (no sugar, keto) and exercise (regular). I also believe "work stressors" play a big role because when I worked in an office I had a vague sense that being female was a distinct, grueling, unfair, and gaslighting disadvantage. My husband has had a much easier time of carving out a career. I am very lucky: I moved to cheaper part of the country, and cut down to part-time work, and focused on fixing the sleep problem.
