Terrific topic...my take on the "real" mobsters is that if TV and film portrayed them as they are, i.e. mostly thug psycopaths, it would be impossible to like them and therefore, not engaging. So, they have to be humanized. But who cares? The Sopranos is arguably the greatest TV show ever made!
