Thanks for this article as it discusses often overlooked aspects of John Wayne's life and legacy. He was an opportunist and racist but the problem is, as always--separating the artist from his art. I don't like his political opportunism, white supremicisim, and a lot of other opinions, but he doesn't exactly fall into the Roman Polanski or Bill Cosby camp, either.
