The analysis I commend, for higher ed has much to answer for in terms of power imbalances and it does churn out educated idiots in thrall to a kind of cultish conformity...but this article also rests strongly on the idea of racism as mainly a result of backwards thinking that has coagulated mainly in institutions and traditions. Racism is institutionalized but it is also a living, breathing beast. The solution of starting from scratch doesn't acknowledge that the beast won't die even as it's home turf is razed. It will find new pastures. And to deal with the beast, we have to do more than think in terms of destroying entire curriculums. Literacy about race is needed, and at the same time literacy about gender are a good place to start. We need a multi-dimensional approach to deal with issues of hatred and dehumanization because they are core human problems.
