The GOP believes people are inherently lazy and if you don't use a whip, no one will work. This has been proven false over and over again, of course. Left to their own devices, people--yeah, even "poor" people--are productive. They raise kids, gardens, pets, help their communities, and do other unpaid work, in addition to hobbies and some paid work. But the overlords needs a workforce and they keep dragging out the tired argument that people "don't want to work." The implication is, "unlike me, a productive GOP zealout, of course I WANT to work."
