The hatred for those not reproducing is very odd but a logical outgrowth of our herd-survival instinct, without which we wouldn't have gone forth and multiplied--ironically to the point where we are killing our environment. The hatred of trans and gay people, the hatred of women who choose abortion, the hatred of childfree (and pity for childless!) women...it's all part of the same ball of ugly wax. But there is a little glimmer of hope: I just bought a house from Jack, who died here at 93 with no kids, no stepkids, no younger family. He took care of his mom, who passed on 20 years before him, and lived here and let the leaves pile up in fall and let the house slowly crumble around him, and he won. We bought it from some distant cousins who just wanted the cash. Good for Jack. Not everyone without family ends up in a home.
