The lack of basic awareness about women's trauma is similar to white folks not grokking or even thinly grasping what it's like to be black in the US. Most people are deeply ignorant about things they don't personally experience. Not an excuse but that's kind of how people are...even educated ones. This is why Woke has become a watchword.
