The work problem is all-or-nothing. You have a punishing 60+ hour a week real job making real money or are gigging it with terrible hours which, although too few, make it all feel full time. It's the Wild West of employment. Taking actual time off means quitting your job and taking a self-imposed sabbatical because employers in the US simply won't support sane schedules.
