These are all good points but I do think some of us are more likely to encounter narcissists due to traits such as autism, which make us targets for bullying. My strategy has always been to leave as soon as I figured out the person in question was a narc, so I haven't endured sustained or intimate abuse with these people, but in work situations I've found myself with no safe place. HR hasn't helped. That has led to leaving jobs because I, an autistic person, have an aura. I get more than my share of these aggressive types of people.
