This article is spot on. It's amazing how many readers, er, white guys, read this and felt compelled to call bullshit because everyone has a right to say what they think about everything. Tone deaf. You pointed out how white guys are clueless about BOTH sexism and racism. White women are fairly clueless about racism but since we've experienced BS about being told what we are and are not capable of based on our gender, been denied work opportunities, etc. - we at least have clue 1 about how racism FEELS. We have the ability to make the connection emotionally with victims of racism. (Yes, it feels like shit to be labeled and limited and denied based on your gender; I'm guessing racism is worse). The trouble with many white guys is they have no reference point. Oh--if you've legitimately experienced institutional discrimination because you were in some other minority (Jewish, disabled, etc.) yeah, you have clue 1. Otherwise, YOU DON"T GET IT. So rather than defend your "rights"--read and listen and get curious about the bullet of racism and sexism that dodged you.
