This is a disturbing phenomenon that is happening everywhere, including in the US. A friend of mine is moving to Portugal; his brother is moving from Jackson WY to Nevada. Why? Because millionaires have overrun Jackson and it's now transformed, its small-town, scenic charm drowned in wealth (that began happening, slowly, in the 1980s). My realtor friend in Sedona says you cannot buy real estate in Sedona --which should be a National Park, anyway, but it's too late now--unless you have cash, so only millionaires can live in Sedona. The beautiful places are becoming monopolized by the rich. Coasts and places with delightful weather--like a big swath of Portugal--are getting it the worst, but eventually, as more and more people crowd the planet and it becomes less livable, and more obscene wealth is the natural result....well, beauty will only be for the rich.
