This is a familiar case. It's odd that no one seems to have a clue as to what was happening in this family's life. They seem like they lived an isolated existence. It seems clear to me the killer was someone who knew them. A random crime doesn't make sense--why leave a big chunk of $$ but take the case? (The gun could have been connected to the perpetrator rather than being what killed them...otherwise--why take it?) I'm tempted to believe there is shoddy police work, a cover-up, and/or drug crimes involved. In some ways, this reminds me a bit of the disappearance and murder of the McStay family.
