This story will always be popular because Mr. Nice Guy (who wasn't) acted in a way that seemed out of character. People who think monsters all look like Henry Lee Lucas can't understand how a clean-cut, employed dad could snap. No one could see this guy's rage. There was little Shanann Watts could have done except get far away from him. She certainly couldn't have predicted his murderous rage, any more than anyone else in his life could have. As other commenters here note, fearful people don't want to accept that anyone (including themselves) could have been a victim. Shanann could no more have predicted or prevented a tornado from taking her life.

When it comes to sexism and misogyny, it isn't just a few people who victim blame. Witness the TV show "Breaking Bad" - the story of a lying criminal named Walter White. A lot of people who watched the show blame the main character's wife, Skylar, despite the fact that she was a victim rather than a perpetrator. Her character is hated on social media.

OK, stepping off soapbox....
