This works for most people, but those with serious alcoholism and drug addictions seem to fall into a different category once the addiction takes hold. As a society, we could do a lot more to limit obviously toxic, tempting substances like alcohol, tobacco, and sugar. With tobacco, we've made strides. Once an addiction is begun, it's quite difficult to break. With tobacco, the evil Big Tobacco execs went after kids, and Big Food is doing the same thing with sugar. Alcohol consumption tends to also begin young, in teen years. Personality responsibility is great but some folks really are victimized by profiteering, predatory drug pushers.
