Wants are often created by societal norms. It has more to do with the opportunity to acquire power/money/respect than a specific job. E.g. fewer women become engineers partly because the profession is something of a boys club so a woman must swim upstream to make it and barriers will discourage more women than men. Engineering is a good profession with a certain amount of income, security and status which will be harder for a woman to achieve.
