We bought a teardrop trailer for about 11,000 which included security devices, tow package, and a few minor upgrades. It has a queen bed for sleeping and small kitchen that opens up in the back, plus heat and cooling.Even if I could afford more, a large RV has significant downsides. Someone who would pay $200,000 for a "camper van" has way more money than sense. All the bells and whistles are fun but like new toys at Christmas, you soon tire of many of them. Plus, they depreciate pretty quickly and your point about the average RV owner using it 1-2 months a year is an excellent one.
